Siargao Island. Famous for it's quaint, care-free environment, friendly locals and surfing. Beach bums like Jack Johnson and Jason Mraz has been spotted taking inspiration from the crashing waves and fine, white sand. I have been to Siargao only once, back then when I was shocked to find out that the only means of transportation was siting behind a motorcycle driver, fondly called as habal-habal on my second and most recent visit though, I was crazy about habal-habals, surfing, boozing up and getting sand in my shorts.




Three friends who call themselves The Hippies invited me and my friend to document their "Hippie Beerday", we were take to photo and video document their celebration and the in-betweens. They were so game in anything and everything we asked them to do. We shot them on a rice field, on the beach, and on a mountain top.








One thing that was great about these girls was that they knew how to throw a party, no scratch that parteh! vodka, JD, beer, gin, rhum and bongs were served. I got my camera out of harms way and partied under a beautiful star-moon-lit night with the sound of the waves nearby covered under BEP's "I Gotta Feeling"










One of our stay's highlight was the annual international surfing competition - Billabong all the great surf dudes of Australia, Japan, etc. come to the humble island and challenge the massive waves. We were meters away from the actual riding and crashing but I managed to take some surf shots It was wonderful seeing local surfers doing good in the sport and at the same time foreigners indulging in our culture.







I tanned myself to sunburn-come and got less than 5 hours of sleep in our short, 2-day stay. It was one of the best 2-days of my being a photographer I shall come back to this beautiful island and promised myself, stay at least a week there and I will learn how to surf and maybe get drunk in the process, oh wait, definitely get drunk in the process.

Siargao Island is a place where you fall in love with the beach and the people and with nature and still find time to get wasted and surf at the same time
